Drop Sugar, Drop Pounds
June 20, 2014Written by Health and Wellness Central
When it comes to our health, it would be tough thinking of just one ingredient in modern food that’s the worst for us. While cheap food has been a blessing in so many ways, it has also led to a lot of detrimental ingredients ending up in a number of our food items. However, if I had to pick just one, I’d probably say sugar.
It’s not that sugar is bad for us in and of itself. After all, sugar is in fruit, which we all need in our diet in order to stay healthy. So some sugar would not be so bad, especially if it was paired with fiber and vitamins.
The problem is that so much of the sugar we eat is refined and unnecessary. For one thing, this means it’s been stripped of the fiber you’d otherwise associate with it. So when you eat the sugar, it will immediately spike your blood sugar as opposed to having the fiber slow down the rate at which you absorb it. Unfortunately, this makes you hungrier and more prepared to get fat.
Speaking of which, all that sugar in modern day processed foods is unnatural for us to be consuming. So chances are it leads to massive amounts of inflammation. Aside from adding pounds to the scale, inflammation also means your internal organs and other processes won’t function right. This can lead to all kinds of problems, even keeping weight on because your internal operations don’t work as they should.
