Snacks to Avoid Before Sleep
April 21, 2012Article Submitted by Weight loss & Skincare Products
Millions of Americans suffer from various sleep disorders. If you are one of them, you should definitely look into why and how your sleep is being disrupted. Good sleep is essential. For those who have never experienced good sleep, resolving their issues is a life changing event. Some have enough energy to run through the day and not suffer any drop off in energy. Have you met someone who always seems to have energy? Is always doing something and never seems to get tired. That is someone who is getting very good sleep.
Snacking on the wrong foods before bed is one cause of bad sleep. Doctors say not to eat in the two hour window before you sleep, but if you must snack, try and avoid these:
- Coffee.
This has got to be a no-brainer. Coffee is a very strong stimulant and has a half-life of four hours. That means half its effects take four hours to wear off. Imagine what this does to your sleep. - Citrus.
Late night snacking on citrus fruits can cause heartburn, or even indigestion. If you must have fruit, eat an Apple instead. - Processed Sugars.
Avoid anything with high levels of processed sugar. You will get a sugar high followed by a crash. Definitely not good for restive sleep.
- Spicy Food.
We all love spicy food, but just coffee, spices like chilies can be a stimulant and keep you up. Stick to something like a nut butter and a fruit like Banana instead.
You owe it to yourself to get a good nights sleep. Avoid these foods and you might get a step closer.
